Ohm Boy Match
To me - and I’m sure to many others it seems that we’ve become steadily more compliant with the template that the government, media and big business roll out for us.
They tell us how to live our lives and what we need to believe. We’ve all read articles in newspapers and on lone which are so far from the truth but the power of the written word consumes us. It distorts papers over cracks creates visions which divert are eye from what matters and it works. I’ve traveled to supposedly some of the worst places in the world. To be greeted with big smiles and the warmest of welcomes. I wasted to expect glaring eyes and no welcome at all.
Dealing with the confusion we’ve created for ourselves is about pricking the cosy bubble that the mainstream media has constructed, with our complicity the one that calmly tells us what we want to hear, that everything’s all right, that all these terrible things are happening a long way away.
It might be that there’s no need to be afraid. But some of us-lots of us - feel in our gut that were being lied to. And we’re aching for the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Today we’re failing to question undecided whether or how to act on our indecision. Should we comply? Should we rise up and riot? If everything were trained to trust is just a construct should we continue to support it? Or should we burn it down?
We’ve all felt it: that gaping hollow chasm when you dwell on the enormity of what you don’t know.
‘Ohm Boy’ a central figure in my art work feels it too. He toys with a box of fire lighters his head supplanted with a megaphone. The burning question is what his match will ignite will it be a birthday cake or a Molotov cocktail? A warming flicker or a towering inferno?
Our demands are simple. We want a media that is transparent open and 100% truthful. Even if the truth hurts. Question everything and we might one day get one.
